Ken Scott kicked off the covers and leapt out of bed at his home in the Rocky Mountain town of Mullan, Idaho. It was 6 a. m. on January 7, 2020, and he was on a mission: He'd just heard on the radio that the nearby Silver Mountain Resort had been blessed with nearly a foot and a half of new snow. As a ski addict who'd worked in the industry for the past 30 years as a ski patroller(滑雪巡逻员)and equipment salesperson, he didn't want to miss this perfect skiing chance. These conditions are what skiers live for--even experienced and skilled like Scott, who, at 55, still skied 100 days a year.

When Scott reached Silver Mountain's locker room, he ran into his friend Warren,58,a former ski instructor who had also been a regular on these slopes for more than two decades.

“Can you believe it?”'he said as they changed into their boots.“Sixteen inches! Are you ready?”

For the next hour, the pair skied on various runs under a lightly gloòmy sky, making fresh tracks. They were both in a playful mood. Finally, they reached 16-to-1, an expert-level trail, which was now open. It had been closed all season over concerns that skiers might cause an avalanche(雪崩).But that morning, patrollers had cleared loose snow on the peak, reducing the chance of a snowslide.

“What do you think?” asked Warren.

“Let's go for it!” Scott replied.

When they reached the top of 16-to-1, Warren excitedly looked back at Scott. The huge, toothy grin on his bearded face was what he needed. He pointed, his skis downhill and took off. So thrilled were they that they isolated everything around them. Flying on the trail, despite the biting wind, their hearts burnt with passion for this great skiing. Whoomph! A sudden rogr from behind nearly deafened them.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

In late February, my dad asked me if I wanted to go fishing with him. I said yes. My whole family, minus one of my sisters, would be going.

On the day we left I was excited to go on the trip. As soon as we got there, I unpacked all the things I had in the bedroom My bedroom was small and had two bunk beds on either side of the room. The room made me feel like I was in someone' s grandma' s house. It was late by the time we got to the house, so l went to bed quickly.

The next morning I got up and my dad said that we would board the boat for just something to do. As we were in the car, I noticed that it was raining pretty hard outside.

Just then another boat approached us. A man with heavy beard shouted at us, claiming that it was not a good day for boating. He warned us to go back, but we thought nothing of it. The boat was pretty nice. It had a covering over the front side of the boat and seats in the back.

We got out to the water, and the waves started to pick up a little. As we gotout to the water a little farther I thought to myself, "Wouldn' t it be funny if the boat starts sinking?"

Apparently, my thought was starting to come into reality, as the waves started picking up even more. I looked at my sister with a worried look on my face. She also looked worried.

The boat started tipping more as the waves spilled into the boat. My sister and I started screaming. I looked at my dad and he had a worried look on his face too. That was how I knew that things were getting worse.

My dad usually never gets worried about these sorts of things. The water was about knee high on my sister and me. The boat kept rocking from side to side.

My sister was now crying and my mom was yelling at us to put our life

I thought I was going to die.

范文:

My sister was now crying and my mom was yelling at us to put our life jackets on. I almost cried myself but I knew that crying and panicking wouldn’t help. My dad had my sister sit closer to the front of the boat so she would be the safest. I held my mom tightly the whole time while she tried scooping the water out of the boat with her hands. We started to head back to the docks before the boat sank. With a pounding heart and cold, moist palms, I found it was getting hard to breathe.

I thought I was going to die. The waves wouldn’t calm down. The rain was still pouring down on us. Desperate as we were, we had no choice but to stay put, sinking with the boat. Just then, I felt someone grabbed my arm out of the water. Clearing the water on my face, I could see the man with heavy beard came to our rescue. As soon as the boat got back to the dock, my sister and I jumped out of the boat, after extending our gratitude to the man for his kindness.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一个完整的短文。

Agatha was in the library, reading the Girl Detective series, when she noticed something strange. Her best friends, Timmy and Florence, were talking to each other in whispers while keeping a good, safe distance from her! When she waved at them, they looked away.

Things only got stranger in art class. Timmy and Florence went to sit at a different table from Agatha, busy painting, and glanced at her when they thought she wasn't looking.

Now,Agatha considered herself to be something of a detective. After all,she had read many detective stories for children and even had an old broken magnifying glass(放大镜)abandoned by her father. When the rest of the class went out for lunch. she slipped to Timmy and Florence's table and examined it carefully with the magnifying glass.

There was paint, and red and pink construction paper. What could they be doing? This was definitely a mystery that needed solving!

After lunch Timmy and Florence chatted toher as if nothing was going on, but they kept smiling at her in a slightly strange way. Of course,Agatha could have asked them what they were up to,and they might have told her--but she wouldn't have a chance to become a detective!

On the way home from school,Florence and her mum happened to walk ahead of Agatha and her mum. Agatha saw them go into the bookshop. Strange, again.Florence didn't read much---no matter how many detective stories Agatha recommended to her!

The next day at school, Agatha kept an eye on her friends and tried to work out their mystery, but they seemed determined to keep things secret. She asked them if they would like to play with her after school, but they said they couldn't because they were busy. Things became even more mysterious.

When Agatha's mum came to pick her up after school, she was so lost in the unsolved mystery that she hardly noticed her busy father was coming along, which was unusual. When they arrived home, her father said she could go into the living room.

注意:

1.续写词数应为150左右;

2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

Opening the door of the living room, Agatha heard voices shout from darkness, “SURPRISE!"

After eating the cake, Agatha got down to the business of opening her birthday presents.

范文:

“SURPRISE!".When she entered the darkened living room, the lights came on suddenly. Her best friend Timmy and Florence were there, grinning! On the table were a cake with candles and a pile of presents. Mum and Dad followed her into the living-room and lit the candles, saying: “Happy Birthday, dear. You were so distracted by the mystery to be solved as to forget today is your birthday! Now, blow the candles, make a wish and enjoy the cake.”

After eating the cake, Agatha got down to the business of opening her birthday presents. The first gift was the big red and pink birthday card with “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” written on it in Timmy and Florence's childish handwriting. “We hope you like the card we made for you!"said Timmy, and Florence added, “We also bought the latest Sherlock Holmes Detective series for you!”Agatha hugged her friends in appreciation of their surprise gifts.Mum and Dad handed her a brand-new magnifying glass in place of the old broken one. Agatha might not have solved the mystery, but it was still a wonderful birthday!

Jack lived in a small village surrounded by forests and he had always been fascinated by animals and often spent his free time wandering around the woods, observing them.

One day, while wandering through the forest,Jack chanced upon a group of deer eating grass peacefully in a clearing(空地).As he approached them, they rushed away, frightened by his presence. Jack felt sad that the animals were afraid of him,and he decided to change it.

Over the next few weeks, Jack visited the clearing every day, sitting quietly and patiently, observing the deer from a distance. Slowly but surely, thedeer grew accustomed to his presence and started to approach him and allow him to pet them. Jack was thrilled that he had gained their trust.

Inspired by his success,Jack started to explore the forest more and more, meeting different animals along the way.He encountered a family of rabbits, a pack of wolves, and even a group of bears. Although he was initially scared of the bears,he soon realized that they were just as curious about him as he was about them.

Jack started to bring food for the animals, and they started to see him as a friend. He would sit with them for hours, watching them play and interact with each other. He learned so much about their behavior and habits, andhe felt a deep connection with them.

One day, while he was sitting with the rabbits, Jack heard a loud noisein the bushes. He was afraid that it might be a predator(捕食者),but to his surprise, a small fox emerged from the bushes. The fox was struggling to walk, and Jack could see that it was injured.

Without hesitation.Jack approached the fox slowly, trying not to scare it. He saw that the fox had a thorn(刺) stuck in its paw, and it was in a lot of pain. Jack knew he had to help the fox, but he didn't want to hurt it further.

The fox licked his hand gratefully and stared at him with its big, brown eyes. From that day on, the fox would follow Jack everywhere he went. Tom's friendship with the animals of the forest was the talk of the village. People would often see him wandering around with a pack of wolves or sitting with a family of bears. They were amazed by his ability to befriend animals that were supposed to be wild and dangerous.

As he grew older, Jack's love for animals grew stronger. He realized that animals were not just pets or creatures to be hunted, but they were his friends and companions. He started volunteering at an animal shelter, where he would help care for injured and abandoned animals. He also worked with local conservation groups to protect the forests and wildlife in his area. Jack's love for animals had brought him a sense of purpose and fulfillment that he had never experienced before. He knew that he had made a difference in the lives of many animals, and he was grateful for the friendship and companionship of his animal friends.

Trevor,a thirteen-year-old boy who could read well. Yet, in spite of his reading skills, Trevor was failing. He had been failing exams since first grade, as he was passed on from Grade 1 to Grade 7. Trevor was a big boy, looking much bigger than a thirteen year old. However, Trevor went unnoticed... until Miss Brown.

Miss Brown was smiling, young, and Trevor was attracted! Yet,still he failed. He never did his homework, and he was always in trouble with Miss Brown. His heart would break under her sharp words! Still, he did not study.

One day,the entire grade was tested for basic skills. Trevor hurried through his tests, and continued to dream of other things. His heart was in the woods, where he often escaped alone. No one checked on him. No one knew he was gone. Strangely, Trevor never missed a day of school.

The next day,Miss Brown's impatient voice broke into his daydreams.

"Trevor,pay attention!”

Trevor locked his look on Miss Brown as she began to go over the test results for the seventh grade.

“You all did pretty well,” she told the class, “except for one boy, and it breaks my heart to tell you this, but...the smartest boy is failing my class!”

She just stared at Trevor, as the class turned around for a good look. Trevor dropped his eyes and carefully examined his fingertips.

After that,it was war! Trevor still wouldn't do his homework. Even as the punishments became more severe, he remained stubborn(固执的).

“Just try it! ONE WEEK!”Miss Brown shouted. But Trevor was unmoved.

“You're smart enough! You'll see a change!” Totally unmoved.

“Trevor! Please! I care about you!”

Suddenly,Trevor got it! Someone cared about him? Someone,CARED ABOUT HIM?!”

Trevor went home from school, thoughtful, that afternoon. Walking into the house, he took one look around. He, for the first time ever, gathered up his schoolbooks and did his homework.

注意:

1.续写词数应为150左右;

“The smartest boy in our class had just passed his first test on homework!” announced Miss Brown.

范文:

The following Monday he arrived at school earlier, waiting for Miss Brown to enter the classroom. She walked in, all sparkle and smiles! He desired for her smile to turn on him. It did not. Miss Brown, immediately, gave a quiz on the weekend homework. Trevor hurried through the test, and was the first to hand in his paper. With a look of surprise, Miss Brown took his paper. Obviously puzzled, she began to look it over. Trevor walked back to his desk, his heart pounding within his chest. As he sat down, he couldn’t resist another look at Miss Brown. Then, Miss Brown stood up, holding his paper.

“The smartest boy in our class had just passed his first test on homework!” announced Miss Brown. She glanced up at Trevor, then down, then up, her face breaking into a big smile. The whole class seemed in total shock and then burst into a long round of applause. Overwhelmed by excitement and surprise, tears sparkling in his eyes, Trevor felt nothing was the same from that moment. He discovered that not only could he learn, but he was good at it. He discovered that could translate the things he learned into his own life. A change gradually took place within the heart of one boy, all because of one teacher, who cared.

One morning in October, Pam Bales checked theweather forecast posted by the Mount Washington Observatory before she drove tothe mountain, which described conditions on the higher summits as “full-onwinter". But based on her experience, Bales knew that her hike wasrealistic. Besides, she had two plans to avoid accidents, and took extra layersof clothing and a tent to protect her as conditions changed. At about 8:00 a.m., she stepped on the snow-covered Jewell Trail.

The hike up the lower portion of Jewell Trail waspleasant. Bales felt excited as she walked up into the snowy paths. At 8:30a.m., still below the treeline, she stopped and took the first selfie. At 10:30a. m., the weather was showing its teeth. Bales added a shell jacket, goggles(护目镜) and mountaineering gloves to protect her fromthe cold wind and heavy fog. She made her way across the snow-covered ridge (山脊) toward Mount Washington and began to thinkabout calling it a day and returning to her car. Then she noticed something: asingle set of footprints in the snow ahead of her.

Bales followed the tracks cautiously for 20 to 30yards, struggling to remain upright. She rounded a slight corner and saw a mansitting beside a large rock, without any movement. She approached him and said,“Oh, hello.”

He did not react. He wore tennis sneakers, alight jacket and a pair of gloves, and his head was bare. He looked wet; thickfrost covered his jacket. His eyes tracked her slowly, and he barely moved hishead. At this moment, Bales realized that her hike now transitioned to afull-on rescue mission.

“What is your name?" she asked.

He did not respond.

"Do you know where you are?”

Nothing. It was obvious that nothing wasconnecting for him. He was hypothermic(体温过低的)and in really big trouble.

注意:

1.续写词数应为 150 左右;

2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

As she put him against the rock, she checked himfor any sign of injury.

Bales told the man that they should get out ofhere before dark.

范文: As she put him against the rock, she checked him for any sign of injury. The man was barely conscious, his body shaking with cold and his skin turning blue. Bales knew she had to act fast if she wanted to save him. She wrapped him in all the extra layers of clothing she had brought and started a fire to warm him up. She gave him some food and water, and rubbed his hands and feet to get the circulation going again. She watched him closely as he slowly began to regain some of his strength, his eyes blinking in confusion. Bales felt a surge of relief and gratitude wash over her. She had been able to make a difference and save a life.

Bales told the man that they should get out of here before dark. She knew they had to move quickly if they wanted to make it back down the mountain safely. She helped the man to his feet, supporting him as they started to walk down the trail. The going was slow and difficult, as the man stumbled and fell several times. But Bales remained calm and focused, encouraging him with every step. As they descended, the weather began to clear and Bales could see the beauty of the mountain in front of her. She felt a sense of awe and wonder at the power of nature and the fragility of human life. And she knew that she would always be grateful for the chance to help someone in need.
